Second Lieutenant Mbamy-Conci
Donna MBamy-Conci is is a passionate advocate for justice, healthcare equality, and youth empowerment. Donna began her post-secondary studies in sciences at Okanagan College before being accepted into Dalhousie University’s College of Pharmacy. A year into pharmacy school, Donna realized she needed a secondary platform to address justice and healthcare disparities, including racial obstacles she and her family had experienced.
Determined to pursue both passions, Donna enrolled in Dalhousie University's Schulich School of Law while completing her pharmacy degree, successfully balancing the demands of both professions. Now, as a practicing community pharmacist and soon-to-be lawyer, Donna is expertly merging her passion for community support, knowledge and skills to advocate for patients, healthcare providers, and the broader community.
At Schulich, Donna worked as a LexisNexis Law Student Associate. She has also served as President of the Dalhousie Christian Legal Fellowship since 2022 and has been a Law Student Advocate with Dalhousie Student Advocacy Services since 2021. In the 2022-2023 school year, Donna was a National Mentorship
committee Member for the Black Law Students’ Association of Canada and the Vice President of the Dalhousie Black Law Student Association, through which she empowered future and current Black law students across Atlantic Canada. She also collaborated with the Dalhousie Indigenous Law Student Association to design a T-shirt fundraiser to raise funds for the One North End non-profit.
Throughout her post-secondary education in Pharmacy, Donna also served as President of the Dalhousie Student Pharmacy Society, a Board Member of the Pharmacy Association of Nova Scotia, a Peer Mentor for the Black Student Advising Centre, and a Student Representative for the Faculty of Health Equity and Inclusion Committee.
In the summer of 2024, Donna worked at the College of Pharmacists as a Policy Research Assistant. She also spent three weeks in Ireland with the university movement, Catholic Christian Outreach (CCO). Donna graduated from Dalhousie University's Schulich School of Law in 2025 with a Juris Doctor as well as a certificate in Criminal Law and a certificate in Health Law & Policy. Donna began articling at Nova Scotia Legal Aid, Dartmouth, in June 2025.
Donna’s leadership journey began in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, where she was a member of 259 Panther Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron (RCACS) in Penticton, BC, for seven years. Through the program, she obtained both her Glider Pilot License and Private Pilot License. She continued her service to community and youth by joining the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Cadet Instructor Cadre officer, becoming a Glider Pilot Instructor and teaching cadets how to fly on the Glider Pilot Scholarship Course in Victoria, BC, and Trenton, ON.
Donna went on to work with 292 Halifax RCACS for three years, where she further pursued her passion for instructing, mentoring, and empowering youth. Currently, Donna is an instructor at 117 Preston/Westphall Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps (RCACC). During her time as an officer in the Cadet Instructor’s Cadre, Donna earned the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, recognizing her dedication to personal development, leadership, community service, and outdoor adventure.
Donna’s leadership and dedication to community has been recognized by the Dale Daley Pharmacy Award for Excellence in 2023, the IMPACT Leadership Award: Faculty of Health in 2022 and in 2022, Donna received a scholarship to attend the Change the World Model UN NYC, representing Gambia. There, she received the Top Delegation of the UN General Assembly Award for her persuasive speaking, engaging debates, and diplomatic negotiations. In 2022, Donna also received the Canadian Pharmacists Association Centennial Leadership Award, and the Nora Hickson Kelly Award from the Black Student Advising Centre.
Beyond her work in law, healthcare, and aviation, Donna is a certified personal trainer, group fitness instructor, and weight trainer, leading a variety of fitness classes, including Zumba, BollyX, Pound, Xtreme Hip Hop, and Tabata. She volunteers as a Youth Team Leader through the Nova Scotia Community Alliance, where she provides education on sexual health to African Nova Scotians. She was a founder of Sunshine Smiles Foundation, which is a non-profit organization aimed to alleviate poverty, hunger, and homelessness. She also volunteers at long-term care facilities, playing violin and piano for residents, she is a St. John Ambulance Advanced Medical First Responder, and she is a Harm-Reduction Volunteer who distributes safe injection supplies and naloxone.
